Cancer is the leading cause of death in domestic animals and the signs and symptoms of the disease are often over-looked by owners. Being aware of how cancer manifests in your pet is the first step to ensuring your pet gets the proper treatment, in a timely manner. What should you look for?
Watch your dog’s appetite and if you see any change in how much they eat or have difficulty eating
Watch the weight, if your dog loses weight rapidly let your vet know, watch for a thinning around their waist or ribcage becoming visible under their fur
Change in stool, including diarrhea
Lack of interest in playing or going for walks
Long naps, lethargy or decrease in movement
Drinking more water and needing to urinate more often
When brushing and petting take note of any lumps, firmness or swelling
